Man arrested in connection with robberies in Swansea

A 38-year-old man has been arrested following two robberies which happened within minutes of each other.

Police swooped on Swansea city centre after receiving reports of an incident near McDonalds in Castle Square and involved a Loomis security van at 9.10am on Saturday , August 24.

Officers were also alerted to a second incident half a mile away at 9.12am at Londis in Norfolk Street, Mount Pleasant .

South Wales Police confirmed the two alleged crimes were being linked.

Previously, a force spokeswoman said: "Officers responded to reports of robberies in Oxford Street and Norfolk Street, Swansea.

"Police were called shortly before 9.10am with reports of an armed robbery in Oxford Street.

"A man was threatened by a male suspect who then made off with a cash box. 

"A man was taken to hospital for treatment.

"The second incident took place in Londis, Norfolk Street, at around 9.12am. The suspect fled the scene empty-handed.

"The woman was not injured.

"Armed officers were deployed to ensure the safety of the public and officers in the area."

The man who has been arrested in connection with the incidents is currently in police custody.
