Man arrested in connection with 'rape' of teen girl in Edinburgh's Princes Street Gardens

Detectives investigating the alleged rape of a teenage girl in Edinburgh have arrested a man in connection.

A major probe was launched after a 16-year-old was reportedly attacked in Princes Street Gardens at around 9.50pm yesterday.

A large-scale police presence with specialist forensic officers remained at the scene throughout the day on Sunday, June 6.

Several members of the public reported being unable to access large parts of the city centre park as investigators combed the area for evidence.

In a new update, Police Scotland have now revealed that a 26-year-old man has been arrested.

A force spokesperson said: “Around 9.50pm on Saturday 5 June 2021 officers received a report that a 16-year-old female had been seriously sexually assaulted within Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh.

“A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing.”
