Man arrested in connection with alleged rape of teen girl near Bothwell Castle

A man has been arrested after a teenage girl was raped in a wooded area of South Lanarkshire.

On May 20, the girl was with friends in the woods near Bothwell Castle between 5.45pm and 7.30pm.

After breaking away from the group, she was approached by a man who raped her, near the Clyde Walkway.

Officers from Police Scotland in Lanarkshire confirmed that a man aged 25 had been arrested in connection with the serious sexual assault.

A Police Scotland statement read: "Police in Lanarkshire can confirm that a 25-year-old man has been arrested following the report of a serious sexual assault in Bothwell.

"The incident took place between 5.45pm and 7.30pm on Wednesday, 20 May, 2020 when a teenage girl was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her near to the Clyde Walkway.

"Enquiries remain ongoing."
