Man arrested 'for threatening woman' who led Brexit legal challenge

A man has been arrested after threats were made online against Gina Miller, the woman who launched a legal challenge over Brexit.

Ms Miller believes Parliament must be consulted before Article 50 is triggered and won a High Court ruling on the case. The Supreme Court is currently hearing the case after the Government’s appeal.

The Metropolitan Police said it arrested a 55-year-old man on suspicion of racially-aggravated malicious communications.

Officers arrested the man in Swindon on Monday, and took him to a Wiltshire police station. He has been released on bail.

A spokesman said: “An investigation was launched by Falcon detectives after police were made aware of threats made online against a 51-year-old woman from November 3 onward.

“As part of the same investigation, officers also issued a ‘cease and desist’ notice on December 3 to a 38-year-old man from Fife, Scotland.”

The Met’s Falcon unit is dedicated to fighting fraud and online crime.
