Man arrested for 'queue jumping and threatening staff' at Tesco

A man was arrested at a south Manchester supermarket after he was reported for repeatedly jumping queues and threatening members of staff.

The man was arrested at the Tesco store in Burnage on Monday morning for public order offences.

Security staff reported the man to police after he was found to be attending the store, queue jumping and then threatening staff when challenged.

According to police, the man had also been displaying similar behaviour at the store the day before.

“He was causing these problems over Sunday 29th and Monday 30th causing other shoppers anxiety and stress,” GMP posted on social media.

“Behaviour like this will not be tolerated.”

Tesco confirmed that extra security measures had been put in place in stores across the country in order to handle recent events.

“We have introduced additional measures to protect our customers and colleagues, and ensure that everyone in our stores maintains a safe distance," the spokesperson for Tesco said.

"We're asking customers to help by following some simple requests when they shop with us.

“We want to thank the local Police for helping us to ensure that everyone feels safe in our Burnage store.”

Last week, officers in Trafford were called to a similar situation at an Asda store where a man tried to jump the queue and 'wasn't staying two metres away' from shoppers.

The man was arrested after he became ‘abusive and threatening’ to security staff when challenged about his behaviour.
