Man arrested for GBH after hit-and-run crash in Bristol

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing GBH with intent after a car was used to injure a pedestrian in Bristol on Monday.

Police arrested the 20-year-old man and are still questioning him today, Tuesday, December 28, while the victim of the attack is still receiving treatment in hospital.

The incident happened on the High Street in Westbury-on-Trym on Monday.

Police said a 25-year-old man was on foot at around 2.15pm on Monday when he was struck by a car being driven along the high street.

“The pedestrian, a 25-year-old man, was taken to hospital where he remains, undergoing treatment,” said a police spokesperson.

Police said the driver failed to stop after the collision, but a 20-year-old man was arrested earlier today, Tuesday, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and is in custody.

Avon and Somerset Police released an image of the car in question, pictured on CCTV badly damaged from the collision, and said they need to find the car.

Detectives issued an appeal to find the car.

“We’re issuing an image of a car we want to locate following a fail to stop collision in Westbury-on-Trym in which a pedestrian was injured,” a police spokesperson said.

“If you’ve seen a car similar to the one in the image, which has suffered damage, or if you have any other information about the collision – including any relevant CCTV or dashcam footage – please call 101 and give reference number 5221302845,” he added.
