An Egyptian man has been arrested following a complaint about the weather that he posted on social media in Kuwait.
According to the country's Ministry of Interior, the person behind the video they labelled as “offensive” was arrested and referred to authorities, who will now “take the necessary legal actions against him”.
In the video posted to TikTok, the man who remains in custody can be heard commenting on a sandstorm that had covered Kuwait for a number of days.
“I’m inside a dust storm right now, I literally can’t see anything in front of me,” the man said while turning the camera to the dust coating the road.
“Fine, Kuwait, fine,” he added while cursing in Arabic.
Quickly after the video was posted, it went viral gathering thousands of viewers and attracting a lot of attention.
His arrest has now sparked conversation and condemnation for the country's restrictions on freedom of expression with many calling for his release on Twitter.
In response to the arrest of the Egyptian man - who is a resident in the country - a number of people have posted their own videos online insulting the weather in the country.
The local authorities have yet to respond to the mounting videos, but according to the latest reports they have begun the process of deporting the man.
