Man arrested for attempted murder after woman shot as she sat in her car with four year old daughter

A man was arrested after a woman was shot as she sat inside a car with her four-year-old daughter.

The attack ,which is believed to be a case of mistaken identity, happened at around 7.30pm on Sunday, November 24 while a woman, man and child were sat in a Volkswagen, on Aldwark Road in  Dovecot.

A gunman, believed to have been in another car parked close by then fired a number of shots, shattering the back window, of the woman's car and hitting her arm.

The woman, who was behind the wheel, managed to drive away from the shooting location, and travelled 100 yards away to nearby Grovehurst Avenue, where the car came to a stop.

She was then seen holding her young daughter in her arms before they were both put into an ambulance.

Now, police have confirmed that a 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the shooting.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "Detectives investigating a firearms discharge on Aldwalk Road, Dovecot, on Sunday, 24 November, have today arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of attempt murder.

"The arrested male, who comes from Norris Green, has been taken to a police station where he will be interviewed by detectives."

At the time of the incident, Detective Superintendent  Richie Salter said: "This is an outrageous attack and we are so fortunate that this wasn’t fatal.

"At this stage we believe that the two offenders were armed and they had no thought for the woman, or child in the car, and it is more through good fortune that we are not investigating a serious injury, or worse.

“The two men involved in this cowardly attack need to be caught, and I would appeal to the community to come forward with any information which could help us find them.

“It’s beyond comprehension what the victim and her daughter have gone through and the emotional scars will stay with mum for the rest of her life, our thoughts are with her and her family and specialist family liaison officers will be providing support."
