Man arrested following rape of man in Bolton town centre

A man has been arrested following the rape of a man in Bolton.

Police were called to reports of a rape in the town centre at around 3.30am on Sunday, November 7.

A 22-year-old man had been approached by another man near Nelson Square.

The man walked with the victim to Back Mawdsely Street where he proceeded to rape him.

On November 22, police arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of rape.

He has since been released on police bail while enquiries continue, a spokesman for GMP said.

Detective Sergeant Dominic Beaver, of GMP's Bolton division, said: "The victim continues to receive support from specialist officers following this shocking incident.

"While we have made an arrest, I would urge members of the public who may have been in the area at the time and noticed anything suspicious, to please contact police as soon as possible."
