Man arrested following raid at 'Bomber' Thompson's property

Mark Thompson's property was raided by police on Friday.

A 54-year-old Port Melbourne man has been arrested and was later released following a raid on a property owned by former Geelong and Essendon coach Mark 'Bomber' Thompson on Friday.

Victoria Police said the man was arrested following an investigation into alleged drug trafficking in Port Melbourne.

The man, whose identity police have not confirmed, went to an interview by appointment and was released pending enquiries.

Police also confirmed three other people were arrested and charged with drug trafficking offences as part of the investigation — a 28-year-old Port Melbourne man, a 31-year-old man from Lara, and 22-year-old Mill Park woman.

They were remanded in custody and will appear in court at a later date.

"As the investigation remains ongoing and several matters are before the court, police will not be commenting further at this time," Victoria Police said.

Thompson, a two-time Essendon premiership player and former captain, was an assistant at the Bombers under James Hird at the time of the disastrous supplements program.

The AFL fined him $30,000 for his part in the saga, but Thompson took over the senior role at Essendon for one season in 2014 while Hird served a 12-month suspension.

From 2000-2010 Thompson was the senior coach at Geelong, winning two premierships in a dominant era for the Cats.
