Man arrested five months after blind dog-napping saga

A blind dog named Bowie was reunited with his family in July, after being found almost 300 kilometres from home.

Five months later a 48-year-old man has been charged over the alleged Gold Coast dog-napping.

The four-year-old Australian shepherd was snatched from a Southport home back in July, with police saying he was driven away in a car stolen from a home during a daylight break-in.

Police were quickly on his tail, saying the pooch was smuggled across the border the same day, releasing CCTV footage of a man spotted with Bowie at a Yamba petrol station in northern NSW about 4.30pm.

Two days later a tip-off from the public led NSW Police officers to find Bowie during a vehicle stop at Macksville, a three-hour drive down the coast from Southport.

NSW police arrested a 48-year-old man at the scene, later charging him with receiving stolen property.

The man was released on bail and ordered to live at a Sydney address.

In the meantime, Gold Coast officers also issued an arrest warrant for the man while his interstate matters were dealt with and finalised.

Police said the man returned to Queensland and on Wednesday was arrested at a Southport address and  charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and entering a dwelling and committing an indictable offence.

He will appear at Southport Magistrates Court on January 11.
