A 39-year-old man has been arrested and charged after he allegedly knocked a 92-year-old woman unconscious outside a shopping centre in Williamstown.
At about 12.20pm yesterday, an elderly woman was walking outside a shopping centre on Douglas Parade, Williamstown, when she was approached by a shirtless man.
After approaching the woman — who was using a walker — the man allegedly swung his arm at her and struck her in the head, causing her to fall down and lose consciousness.
CCTV footage of the alleged incident has since surfaced and shows the man walking away after the encounter.

The woman was then taken to hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, police say. Per the Herald Sun, the woman was discharged from the hospital on Thursday morning.
As for the man, he was restrained by members of the public until police arrived on the scene. The man — who has no fixed address — was arrested and charged with intentionally causing injury.
Following the alleged attack, the woman has since thanked the members of the public for their assistance and concern.
“I wish to thank all those who have been so caring of me,” she said, per 9News.
“I remember nothing of the actual incident, but when I woke up, I was surrounded by the police and ambulance and caring onlookers.
“I wish to thank everyone for their concern, I’m pleased to go home as I have a loving family and supportive friends.”
The man appeared at Melbourne’s Magistrates Court today and has been remanded in custody until May 8, the publication reports.
