A man has been arrested over the hit-and-run death of a woman in Co Donegal.
The incident happened on the N15 at Townparks in Lifford at around 2.45am on Sunday.
It is understood that the 34-year-old woman was walking on the street when she was struck by the van.
The van left the scene, and gardai investigating the collision were initially unable to locate the vehicle or its driver.
However officers have confirmed this afternoon that a man in his 40s has been arrested in connection with the incident and is now being held at Letterkenny Garda Station.
And gardai are renewing their appeal for anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
A spokesman said: "A man in his 40s has been arrested by Gardaí investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision in Co Donegal on 11th July 2021. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Letterkenny Garda Station.
"Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses to come forward and for those with video footage (including dash cam) from the scene and along this route to make it available to investigators.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact Letterkenny Garda Station 074 9167116 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111."
Traffic diversions were in place on the road this morning while officers carried out an examination of the scene.
The local coroner has also been notified and a post mortem examination is expected to take place in the coming days.
