Man arrested by Gardai after woman receives abusive messages in Co Meath

A man has been arrested after a woman reported receiving abusive messages in Co Meath on Saturday.

A woman reported receiving threatening and abusive messages in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Gardai arrested and charged a man in connection with the incident and he will appear in court on Monday morning.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí have arrested and charged a man, aged in his 30s, in relation to a report of a woman receiving threatening and abusive messages, which occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning, Saturday 2nd May 2020 in Kells, Co. Meath.

What to do in an emergency situation

"Gardaí arrested the man under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997. He was taken to Navan Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

"The man has been charged and he is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice (Court No. 2) tomorrow morning, Monday 4th May, 2020 at 10.30am.

"Investigations ongoing."
