A man has been arrested by counter terrorism officers in east London for allegedly sharing extremist material online.

The 28-year-old man was detained on Tuesday morning at an address on suspicion of disseminating terrorist publications.

He was detained under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) by the Met Counter Terrorism Command (S015) and taken to a London police station.

The man was at one of two addresses in east London which were raided and searched by officers.

He was arrested on suspicion of an offence under the 2006 Terrorist Act.

A police statement said: “The ongoing investigation relates to alleged extreme Islamist material posted on social media.”

If you see or hear something unusual or suspicious and think someone may be engaging in terrorist activity, report it in confidence at gov.uk/ACT or dial 999.
