Man arrested by armed gardai after tense standoff on busy Tallaght road

Armed gardai were involved in a tense standoff near a Dublin Bus after an attempted robbery at a South Dublin shop on Wednesday evening.

The incident took place on a busy road in Castletymon, Tallaght.

A video has emerged on social media of an armed officer approaching a bus carefully.

Traffic can be seen at a standstill as an unmarked garda car is stationed in the middle of the road beside the bus.

The bus, number 77A, travels from Ringsend Road to Citywest.

A man was subsequently arrested and brought to local garda station for further questioning.

A spokeswoman for An garda Siochana said: "Gardai are investigating an attempted robbery at a service station in Castletymon, Tallaght on the 5th June 2019 at approximately 6pm.

"A man entered the premises with what was believed to be a screwdriver, he fled the scene empty handed and was arrested nearby. The male in his late 30s was detained under section 4 of the CJA 1984 at Tallaght Garda station."
