Police arrested a man, 40, after a pursuit in the northeastern province of Kalasin and found 500kg of crystal methamphetamine in his Pathum Thani-bound car.
Pol Maj Gen Wuthipong Yenjit, commander of the Border Patrol Police Region 2, said on Wednesday that informants tipped police off on Monday of a drug smuggler who was transporting narcotics from the northeastern province of Bueng Kan to Pathum Thani, north of Bangkok. The informant identified the smuggler's car as a white Chevrolet Captiva.
Police found the car on Tha Khantho-Nong Kungsri Road in Tha Khantho district, Kalasin. Pol Maj Gen Wuthipong said the smuggler accelerated his Bangkok-registered car to escape but police managed to puncture its tyre and stop the car.
In the car, police found 10 sacks containing 500kg of “ice”. The suspect was identified only as Awut, a native of the southern province of Songkhla. He told police that a Thai man, who resided in Laos, hired him for 500,000 baht to take the drugs from Muang district, Bueng Kan, to a buyer in Pathum Thani. He said he had made two such deliveries.
