Man arrested as six-week-old baby seriously injured after assault at home in Ashbourne, Co Meath

A man has been arrested after a six-week-old baby was seriously injured following an assault at a Co Meath home.

The baby girl was rushed to Temple Street Children’s University Hospital in Dublin after the incident on Monday morning.

Gardai confirmed to the Irish Mirror they are investigating an assault at a house in Ashbourne.

A woman, aged in her 20s, was also injured during the incident which happened at around 7am.

The baby is being treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The man, aged in his 20s, arrested by gardai is being detained at Ashbourne Garda Station.

A spokesman said: "Gardaí are investigating an assault that took place in Ashbourne, Co. Meath at approximately 7:00am on the 11th November 2019.

"A male, 20s, was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and is currently being detained in Ashbourne Garda Station."
