Detectives have arrested a man on suspicion of assault after an unexplained death in Huyton.
Emergency services were called to a house in Mardale Road at just after 2am on Friday, July 31.
Merseyside Police said a 48-year-old man was found to have sustained an "injury to his stomach" and was rushed to hospital.
However the victim was pronounced dead a short time later.

A spokeswoman for the Force said: "The man’s next of kin have been informed and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
"A 25-year-old man – who is known to the victim - was detained in connection with the incident and is assisting with enquiries."
The 25-year-old has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
