Man arrested as multiple shops smashed up during mindless rampage in Cork town

A number of businesses had the front of their shops smashed up after an individual went on a destructive rampage in a Cork town.

Last Wednesday night, at least seven premises were vandalised on Charleville's Main St with gardaí who are investigating the crimes revealing that a man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the spree, Cork Beo reports.

The proprietors of the four pubs, the retail shop, bookies, and a Chinese takeaway had to clean all of the damage caused to their businesses as well as replace the broken windows.

Three separate pubs had their front windows broken on Wednesday night.

It is believed that the suspect for the crime is local to the area and gardaí believe he has committed similar incidents of vandalism in Charleville on previous occasions.

A garda spokesperson said a man in his 30s was arrested as a result and is being detained in a station in the county, which has not been named for operational reasons.

They said: "Gardaí are investigating an incident of criminal damage were several shopfront properties on Main Street Charleville had their windows broken on the 1st June 2023 at 3am.

"A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and was taken a Garda Station in the Cork Area."
