Man arrested as gardai seize weapons including machetes and hatchets after operation in Ballymun

Gardai have seized a host of objects including weapons, drugs, and a dog this afternoon as part of an ongoing intelligence operation in the Shangan area of Ballymun.

Machetes, hatchets, knives, metal poles and nun-chucks were among the weapons seized in the operation.

A number of phones were also taken by gardai, who additionally found approximately €1,000 in cash, as well as numerous paraphernalia for drugs.

Furthermore, an attack-dog training-suit was found, along with a pit-bull that was taken in by the Dublin City Council dog warden.

After a vehicle in one of the two properties was searched, gardai made the discovery of what is thought to be crack cocaine at a value of approximately €750.

A man in his thirties was arrested following the raid, but has since been released without charge.

A garda spokesperson confirmed the arrest this afternoon. They said "As part of ongoing Community Policing led Intelligence Operations in the Ballymun area, searches at two properties in the Shangan area were carried out on 26/07/2019.

"A large number of offensive weapons were seized. This included machetes, hatchets, knives, metal poles and nun-chucks. A quantity of mobile phones, approximately €1,000 in cash, and drug related paraphernalia were also seized.

"A heavy attack-dog training-suit was discovered and a Pit-Bull dog was seized from the property by a DCC Dog Warden.

"Additional searches of a vehicle attached to one of the properties resulted in the discovery of suspected crack cocaine (subject to analysis) to the value of approximately €750.

"A man in his 30s was arrested and detained at Ballymun Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. He has since been released without charge and file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

"Investigations are ongoing."

It comes after gardai uncovered a shotgun following the of Ballymun.
