Man arrested as cyclist seriously injured after car crash at Moll's Gap in Co Kerry

A cyclist is in a serious condition in hospital and a man has been arrested for dangerous driving following a car crash earlier today.

The cyclist, a man in his 30s, was struck by a car on the N71 at Eric, Moll's Gap in Co Kerry at around 11.30am on Saturday.

He was removed from the scene by ambulance to University Hospital Kerry, where his injuries were tonight described as serious but not life-threatening.

It is understood he was taking part in a cycling event at the time of the collision.

The driver of the car, a man in 50s, was arrested by investigating gardai for suspected dangerous driving.

He has since been released is expected to appear before Killarney District Court in the coming days charged in connection with the incident.

Gardai in Killarney are appealing for witnesses and in particular to motorists who were traveling on the route at the time to make any dash cam footage available to investigators.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Investigations are ongoing."
