Man arrested and weapons seized after two attempted robberies in Dublin park

Gardai have arrested a man and seized weapons after two attempted robberies in a Dublin park.

The attempted robberies happened in St Catherine's Park, Lucan at around 1pm.

A man was threatened by a man holding a suspected fireman and demanding the keys to his car.

The man didn't comply and the suspect fled the scene.

Shortly after, the suspect approached a woman walking in the West Dublin park.

He also demanded the keys to her vehicle. The suspect fled the scene when the woman refused to hand over her keys.

Gardai were called to the scene and searched the area.

A Garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí were alerted to the incidents and a search was conducted of the area by local Gardaí with assistance from the Armed Support Unit.

"The offending man was located and arrested in the vicinity of St. Catherine’s Park and taken to Lucan Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939.

"A replica airsoft pistol and knife was seized by investigating Gardaí for a technical examination.

"Investigations are ongoing."
