Man arrested and pills seized after quick thinking off-duty Garda witnessed suspected drug deal on Limerick-Dublin train

Prescription tablets worth €5,000 were seized after a Garda returning from court witnessed a suspected drug deal on a train on Thursday.

The Limerick-based Garda travelled to Dublin for a court case yesterday - and witnessed the suspected drug transaction on the train home.

The quick-thinking Garda intervened and a total of 2,500 Xanax tablets were discovered.

The prescription pills - with a street value of €5,000 - were seized.

A man, aged in his twenties, was then arrested outside Limerick train station on Parnell Street.

He was held at Roxboro Garda station overnight.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí arrested one man, 20, following a seizure of tablets in the Parnell Street area of Co. Limerick on June 3, 2021 at approximately 4.15pm.

"The man in his 20s was taken to Roxboro Garda station where he is currently detained.

"Investigations ongoing."
