Man arrested and gun seized after daring armed robbery at supermarket led to car chase through North Dublin

A man has been arrested and a gun has been seized after a daring armed robbery at a Lidl supermarket led to a car chase through North Dublin.

A Lidl spokesperson confirmed to Dublin Live that the robbery took place in their Baldoyle store at the Racecourse Shopping Centre on Grange Road at around 4:30 this afternoon.

Gardai responded to a call from the store and caught the robber making his getaway speeding away from the scene.

A number of Garda vehicles took off in pursuit along the busy main roads of the Northside.

The chase came to an end in Darndale, where Gardai arrested a man in his early 30s and recovered the firearm.

A large police presence was seen in the area just off the Malahide Road in Coolock, and Gardai had swarmed the north Dublin estate of Moatview in Priorswood, Dublin 17 this evening.

Several readers had got in touch to say there have been reports of a shooting - however, Gardai confirmed to Dublin Live that this was not the case.

Gardai issued the following statement to Dublin Live: “Gardai are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at a supermarket in the Grange Road area of Baldoyle on 01/08/2020 at approximately 4:30pm.

"Gardai responded and observed a vehicle leaving the scene.

"A managed containment pursuit operation was carried out which concluded in the Darndale area of Coolock shortly after.

"No injuries occurred as result of either the robbery or the managed containment operation.

"Gardai have arrested a man (believed to be aged in his early 30s) and a firearm has been recovered. The man is currently detained at Raheny Garda Station.

"Investigations are ongoing."
