Man arrested and fines issued after police called to Covid breach of '100 people in café'

A man has been arrested and a number of people have been fined after police were called to a coronavirus breach of '100 people in a café' in Burnage.

Officers were called to the incident on Burnage Lane just after 12pm on Sunday.

Police said they received reports of a café flouting Covid lockdown rules 'with approximately 100 people present'.

They attended at the scene and arrested a man on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

A number of people were handed fixed penalty notices.

Greater Manchester Police have not confirmed the name of the café but the M.E.N understands that it was the Kate & Luc Café Restaurant involved.

The owners of the café have posted regularly on their Facebook page about remaining open despite the current lockdown rules.

When asked by a Facebook user whether they could eat inside yesterday (Saturday), the café replied: "Of course u can eat inside.
