Man arrested and charged following 'unlawful' anti-lockdown protest in Glasgow

A man has been arrested and charged following an “unlawful” anti-lockdown protest in Glasgow.

Demonstrators gathered in Glasgow Green and walked to the city’s George Square demanding a right to choose whether or not to wear a face mask.

Hundreds participated in the march in anger at government imposed restrictions in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Police Scotland officers attended the protest and confirmed a 56-year-old man was arrested during the event.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were aware of a protest at Glasgow Green during the afternoon of Sunday, 6 September, 2020, during which around 300 people participated in an unlawful parade to George Square.

“Officers attended and provided a proportionate response and the parade passed peacefully.

“A 56-year-old man has been charged in relation to this and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
