Man arrested after woman's death released as police treat incident as 'tragic street injury'

A man initially arrested by police after a woman was fatally injured on a residential street has been released without charge, with police saying that no further action will be taken against him.

Last night, a 45-year-old woman was found with serious injuries outside a house on Moorland Road, Maghull, shortly before 9.30pm on Saturday.

She is thought to have suffered serious injuries to her neck and was rushed to hospital by paramedics were she passed away a short time later.

A 47-year-old man was initially arrested in connection with the incident, however police have now released him and they will be taking no further action.

The force said that it was treating the woman's death as a "tragic street injury" and that they were not seeking any further suspects in connection with the incident.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "Following an extensive investigation into an incident that occurred on Moorland Road, Maghull yesterday (15th August), Merseyside Police can confirm that this incident is now being treated as a tragic street injury.

"The man arrested has been released with no further action to be taken against him.

"No further suspects are being sought."

This afternoon, friends and neighbours named the woman as Sue Woods, who lived a short distance away from where she collapsed, on an adjoining street.

A blue and yellow tent was erected today on the driveway of a home on Moorland Road where it is understood Mrs Woods lay fatally hurt.

Today, friends and residents who knew her paid tribute to her, and one man called the 45-year-old, her partner and her children a "lovely family."

A police car was parked outside her home as investigations into the tragedy continued and detectives interviewed the suspect.

Nearby residents told how they saw a man wailing, crying and shouting out at the scene as Ms Woods lay seriously injured.

Police are yet to disclose how the victim came by her injuries but today described them as a result of "a tragic street injury".
