Man arrested after woman raped in Rochdale town centre

A man has been arrested after a woman was raped in Rochdale.

The victim was walking through a wooded area near the back of the town hall when she was forced to the ground and raped.

The attack happened shortly after 5am on Sunday, March 31.

Police arrested a man on suspicion of rape on Monday.

He remains in custody for questioning. 

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Specialist officers are continuing to support the woman with the help of our partners. 

"Enquiries remain ongoing and officers are appealing for anyone with information to get in contact."
