Man arrested after woman plunges from third floor apartment balcony at 2am

A woman suffered serious injuries after she fell from a third floor balcony during an alleged 2am assault in a Manchester flat.

The incident happened at an apartment block on Regent Road today (Friday), prompting a significant response from the emergency services.

The woman miraculously survived the fall but remains in hospital, with what police describe as 'serious injuries' although she is expected to survive. Detectives have started an investigation into the incident and have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of section 18 assault, also known as assault causing grievous bodily harm. He remains in custody.

An ambulance and at least nine police vehicles were scrambled to the scene, just on the Manchester side of Regent Road at the junction with Egerton Street, at 2am on Friday, police have confirmed.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called shortly before 2am to a report of a woman falling from the balcony of a flat on Regent Road, Manchester.

"A woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries which thankfully aren’t thought to be life-threatening.

"A 28-year-old was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and remains in custody.

"Enquiries are being conducted by our Central Park CID and any information should be passed to us online via our LiveChat service or by calling 101 quoting incident 253 of 02/09/2022."
