Man arrested after woman left 'screaming in pain' after police chase crash

A man is under arrest after an horrific head-on crash involving a stolen car.

The impact left a Ford Focus car a mangled wreck after it was smashed into by a stolen Honda Civic, near the junction of Eden Vale and Glover Lane in Netherton.

The Honda was being pursued by police at the time of the incident on Monday night.

Tanya Slinger, 45, was in the back seat of the Ford Focus being driven by her son, 18-year-old Aidan, at the time of the collision and had to be cut free from the wreckage by firefighters.

She described how she was left "screaming in pain" after suffering extensive internal bruising.

Tanya, her son Aidan, and the driver of the stolen Honda Civic were all taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries.

Police today said a 27 year-old man from Liverpool had been arrested on suspicion of burglary, assaulting an emergency worker, possession of a bladed article and road traffic offences following the crash on Monday night (10th August).

The Honda Civic car, amongst other items, were reported to have been stolen at some point between 9.30pm on Sunday and 5am on Monday by an unknown person from an address on Matthews Avenue, Litherland.

Following this, at around 9.30pm on Monday, officers were involved in a short police pursuit with the stolen Honda Civic. The Honda then hit another car.

The driver of the Honda made off from the scene but was detained nearby on Sherborne Avenue, where he was arrested.

Detective Inspector Catherine Walsh said: "This man has put other road users at significant danger by driving in such a dangerous way. It is therefore vital that we appeal for witnesses to ensure we can investigate thoroughly.

"Thankfully, the driver and passenger in the other car sustained non-life threatening injuries, but they are obviously extremely shaken by the incident, as the outcomes could have been so much worse."

"If anyone has information on this incident and could help with our investigations, please get in touch quoting crime reference: 20000475352."
