Man arrested after woman is raped near Leeds university

A man has been arrested in connection with the rape of a woman near the University of Leeds .

The 24-year-old victim was raped in an alleyway, just off Woodhouse Lane, at around 1.50am on Saturday, November 30.

A passer-by went to help the victim and the suspect ran away, towards Leeds city centre.

On Wednesday, December 11, West Yorkshire Police announced that they have arrested a 24-year-old man from Harehills on suspicion of rape and kidnapping.

He is currently being questioned in police custody.

Earlier this month, police released CCTV footage which appears to show a man approaching another woman from behind in Woodhouse Lane and then confronting her, shortly before the attack.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Leeds District CID via 101 quoting crime reference 13190614215 or via the online chat service .

Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
