Man arrested after woman dies of 'suspected overdose'

A man has been arrested on suspicion of administering a poison or noxious substance after a woman died of a suspected overdose in Kensington.

A heavy police presence was reported in Molyneux Road this afternoon, with detectives, forensic investigators and uniformed officers focusing on a particular house.

A scientific support van was parked on the street.

Witnesses told the ECHO that the woman had died of a suspected overdose.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said emergency services had been called following reports of a concern for safety of a woman.

She said: "We were called to Molyneux Road at around 1:30pm.

"Sadly a woman in her 40s was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are currently making enquiries to inform her next of kin.

"A man has been arrested on suspicion of administering a poison or noxious substance.

"Officers remain at the scene carrying out forensic and house to house enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
