Man arrested after woman claims she was sexually assaulted during routine doctor's appointments

A man has been arrested after a woman claimed she was sexually assaulted during routine doctor's appointments in Salford.

Police received a report last month that a woman had been sexually assaulted a number of times whilst attending GP appointments.

This is reported to have happened over a number of years in the Broughton Park area.

A 65-year-old man – who was working as a doctor when the offences took place – has been arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation.

He remains in custody for questioning for questioning.

GMP said the woman is being supported by specialist officers through this 'distressing' time.

Detective Inspector Thomas Willis, of GMP’s Salford district, said: “Any sexual assault is deeply traumatising for any victim and I want to reiterate Greater Manchester Police’s firm commitment to investigating reports thoroughly.

“We have a team of specialist officers supporting the woman through this distressing time, but I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for coming forward and showing true bravery.

“If anyone holds information that they think could assist our enquiries I would plea with you to please come forward.

"Any information passed to us will be dealt with in the strictest confidence and treated sensitively.”
