Man arrested after urinating on cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday

A man has been arrested over urinating on a war memorial on Remembrance Sunday.

Police said the 21-year-old was held in Bristol after relieving himself on the city's cenotaph in Colston Avenue at 2.20am, just hours before it was to be the focus of the city's remembrance commemorations.

Avon and Somerset Police said he was in custody on suspicion of committing an act of outraging public decency.

The memorial was the destination of a Remembrance Day Parade featuring veterans, Reserve units and cadets, where a ceremony led by the Lord Mayor of Bristol, Councillor Lesley Alexander, was due to take place.
