Man arrested after ‘unidentified substance’ sprayed at security staff and 'bricks thrown' at building

Police have arrested a man following a ‘disturbance’ on a busy Manchester city centre street.

Officers were called to King Street at around 6.30am this morning (October 29).

Police said their enquiries established that a man was throwing bricks at a commercial property and sprayed an ‘unidentified substance’ at security staff.

He then fled the scene, Greater Manchester Police said.

The force said the substance was tested by the fire service and is ‘not deemed to be harmful’.

Police on King Street on Friday morning (MEN)

A 53-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and two assaults, GMP said.

He remains in custody for questioning.

No injuries were reported following the incident.

Emergency services were in attendance for around two hours this morning and a police cordon was in place across the front of the building.

Rubbish and broken glass could be seen strewn across the steps of the property.
