A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after two women, believed to be a mother and her daughter, were found dead at a house in Liverpool.
The bodies were discovered at a property in the Anfield area at 9.50am on Monday after police received a call expressing concern about the safety of two women at the address.
A 42-year-old man from Anfield was arrested in connection with the deaths after police broke down the door of a house on a nearby street. Locals said the dead women are a mother and her 25-year-old daughter. Merseyside police described the deaths as unexplained.
Relatives arrived at the house on Monday morning to be greeted by a heavy police presence and forensic investigators.
Several stood in tears hugging each other. One woman ran down the street with her head in her hands. Police ushered the grieving relatives into patrol cars and they were driven away.
Locals said the younger woman was a carer for her mother. Her dog, a Staffordshire bull terrier called Tyson, which she was often seen walking, was also killed, they said.
Samantha Parkin, 25, a friend of the younger woman, broke down in tears as she told how she had been in contact with her on Instagram on Sunday night.
“She stopped messaging me last night about 7.30pm,” Parkin said. “She was bubbly, she was funny, she was dozy, she was kind. She would do anything for anyone. She loved everyone who came into contact with her.
“It’s the worst thing that has ever happened to me. I’m going to miss her.”
Another friend, Ellie Bleasdale, described her as “a lovely girl ... [who] wouldn’t hurt a fly”.
The suspect was in custody on Monday afternoon, where he was being questioned by detectives.
Merseyside police said they were in the very early stages of their investigation.
A postmortem will take place to determine the causes of death for both women.
