Man arrested after two police officers assaulted in Clevedon

A man has been arrested after two police officers were assaulted in Clevedon this afternoon (October 28).

Officers were contacted about a concern for welfare at a property on Westbourne Crescent shortly before 12.30pm.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said two officers were then assaulted at the scene, prompting a man to be arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

A police spokesman said: "Concerns were raised for the welfare of a man at a property on Westbourne Crescent.

"While responding to the call, two officers have been assaulted and the man has subsequently been arrested. He, however, has gone to hospital in order to be checked over."

An ambulance service spokesman said an ambulance crew and senior paramedic attended the Clevedon address.

They added: "Due to patient confidentiality we cannot provide any further details."
