Man arrested after two children 'hacked to death' outside primary school

Two children were hacked to death outside their primary school when a man went on a random rampage, police have said.

Two other kids were rushed to hospital with knife wounds after the attack outside Wanquan Elementary School in Yongzhou, China, shortly after 7am today.

The injured students were being treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to a statement released by Ningyuan county police.

Video footage released by Beijing Youth Daily shows one of the wounded students being moved onto an ambulance on a stretcher.

The names and ages of the victims have yet to be released by authorities.

A 31-year-old suspect from the town of Baijiaping, named as Mr Zheng, was arrested by police as the investigation continues.

The attack is the latest in a string of mass stabbings around China.

Firearms are tightly controlled in China, with private ownership illegal, while knives are mostly unregulated.

It is at yet unclear what type of blade Zheng allegedly used during the attack, and his motives remain unclear.
