Man arrested after trying to get into stolen car - yards away from police

Police have arrested a young man who tried to get into the driver's seat of a stolen car after officers had discovered it.

The 21-year-old unlocked the vehicle and tried to get inside while the authorities waited for a recovery vehicle nearby.

An officer posted about the incident on GMP's Bolton North Facebook page, saying the vehicle was linked to a burglary.

The post said: "Officers from the Bolton West Neighbourhood Team found a vehicle stolen from a burglary in Stockport in January on Vicarage Road, Blackrod this afternoon.

"Whilst officers were waiting for the vehicle to be recovered, a 21-year-old male came and unlocked the vehicle and attempted to get into the drivers seat. The male has subsequently been arrested on suspicion of burglary."

Anyone with further information about stolen vehicles should call GMP on 101.
