A man has been arrested after a teenage girl was hit by a car in Moston.
The girl, 14, suffered serious injuries after being struck by a BMW on Lightbowne Road at around 8.15 on Monday morning.
Police say the girl was crossing the road at the time of the crash.
She remains in hospital in a critical condition.
A man, aged 45, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
He remains in custody for questioning.
Police are appealing for witnesses or drivers who may have dash cam footage from the area at the time of the crash to come forward.
The BMW was travelling south along Lightbowne Road at the time of the crash. The driver did not stop at the scene of the collision.
PC Suzanne Keenan of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This was a nasty collision in which a girl has sadly sustained serious injuries, and our thoughts are with her and her loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
"Our enquiries are ongoing as we try to understand the full circumstances surrounding this incident and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the collision who witnessed what happened.
"We’re particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have recorded dash-cam footage on or around the time of the incident, or who may have seen the silver BMW 318 in the immediate area.
"If you have any information that could assist with our enquiries then please come forward and speak with police."
The BMW was travelling south along Lightbowne Road at the time of the crash.
The air ambulance, land ambulances, rapid response vehicles and advanced paramedics attended the crash.
North West Ambulance Service say the girl suffered 'major trauma injuries'.
Police taped off Lightbowne Road, as well as nearby Nuthurst Road and Kenyon Lane in Moston.
