A man was arrested Thursday after an hours-long standoff with a SWAT team in northwest suburban Lake in the Hills.
Jesus Valdez, 20, is charged with one felony count of residential burglary and misdemeanor counts of criminal damage to property, possession of stolen property and resisting a peace officer, according to a statement from Lake in the Hills police.
About 11:38 a.m., officers responded to the 400 block of Cedar Street to make contact with Valdez, who was a suspect in a burglary that had taken place the day before at a home in the 300 block of Hiawatha Drive, police said.
Valdez is accused of stealing a television, about $900 in cash and and miscellaneous jewelry, police said.
He withdrew into his home when officers reached him, police said. A SWAT team was called to the scene after authorities secured the area.
Valdez exited the residence and surrendered to police without incident about 5 p.m., police said. He was taken to the McHenry County Jail.
