Man arrested after 'suspicious' death of 56-year-old in Aberdare

Police are investigating what they say is the "suspicious" death of a 56-year-old man.

Emergency services were called to Erw Las in Aberdare on at 10.25am Saturday to reports of a man with serious head an facial injuries.

He was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where he has since died.

Police said they are treating the death as suspicious and have arrested a local 38-year-old man on suspicion of assault. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: "Officers in the Cynon Valley are investigating the death of a 56-year-old man from Aberdare.

"Officers were called to assist ambulance colleagues at an address in Erw Las, at approximately 10.25am on Saturday, February 27.

"The occupant of the address was taken to the University of Hospital Wales with serious head and facial injuries, where he has since died.

"The death is currently being treated as suspicious and a 38-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault. He has been bailed pending further enquiries."
