A man has been arrested after a stabbing at a Salvation Army hostel.
Police were called to the hostel on Phoenix Brow, St Helens at about 4pm on Tuesday following reports of an assault.
They found a 29-year-old man who had been knifed in his abdomen. The victim was taken to hospital in an ambulance.
A police spokeswoman said his injuries are "not thought to be life-threatening at this stage."
Now, detectives have arrested an older man, 42, from St Helens, on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent and affray.
He remains in custody for questioning.
An investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact @MerPolCC, 101 quoting ref. 21000251265 or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Yesterday, Chief Inspector Col Rooney, of Merseyside Police, said: “We are in the very early stages of our enquiries following reports a man was stabbed at an address in St Helens this afternoon, and would ask anyone with information to get in touch.
“Thankfully, it is not believed that the victim has sustained any life-threatening injuries, however this incident could’ve had very serious consequences and we are working to establish the full circumstances and locate those responsible.
"We will not tolerate violence under any circumstances and would ask anyone in the area that may have information to please get in touch.”
