'Two loud bangs' were heard after shots were fired in a residential street Kirkby.
It happened shortly before 10pm yesterday (Tuesday) in Heathfield Drive.
Officers attended and found shots had been fired at the door of a house. No injuries were reported.

Following extensive police enquiries, a 19-year-old man from Kirkby was arrested today (Wednesday) on suspicion of criminal damage and suspicion of possession of a firearm.
CCTV, forensic and house-to-house enquiries remain ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact police.
Patrols have also been stepped up in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.
Detective Inspector John Fitzgerald said: "The swift arrest today shows that where people seek to use dangerous weapons to cause fear and harm in our communities we will take action and bring those responsible to justice.
"Although an arrest has been made, detectives are working tirelessly to investigate this incident. Firing a gun in a residential street is extremely reckless and dangerous and could have led to more tragic circumstances.
“Given this happened in a residential area and there will likely be people who witnessed the incident or know who is responsible. I urge those people to come forward, either directly to the police, or via Crimestoppers.
"Please check your CCTV, dashcam or other devices and if you see anything or anyone suspicious please let us know. Any information you provide, however, insignificant it may seem, could be vital to our investigation.
"We will act on all information provided on gun crime to remove weapons and those who use them from the community. Please come forward with what you know, directly or anonymously, and we will do the rest."
