Man arrested after seven dead following double shooting near San Francisco

A suspect has been arrested following two shootings near San Francisco at a mushroom farm and a trucking firm which killed seven people yesterday. San Mateo County Board of Supervisors president Dave Pine confirmed police have now taken 67-year-old Zhao Chunli in connection with the shooting in Half Moon Bay.

Four of the victims were killed at the farm and three at the trucking business on the outskirts of the coastal community which is around 30 miles south of San Francisco. The suspect worked for one of the businesses where one of the shootings took place but It's currently unknown how the two locations are connected, Hull Live reports.

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office tweeted that Chunli, who has been described as a 'disgruntled worker', was taken into custody just before 5pm (1am UK time).

They added: "There is no ongoing threat to the community at this time".

Television footage from the area showed officers taking the man into custody without incident while aerial television images saw police officers obtaining evidence from a farm with dozens of greenhouses. The tragic shooting followed the killing of 11 people late on Saturday at a ballroom dance hall in Southern California.

Mr Pine said in a statement: "We are sickened by today’s tragedy in Half Moon Bay. We have not even had time to grieve for those lost in the terrible shooting in Monterey Park. Gun violence must stop."

California Governor Gavin Newsom tweeted that he was "at the hospital meeting with victims of a mass shooting when I get pulled away to be briefed about another shooting. This time in Half Moon Bay. Tragedy upon tragedy".
