Man arrested after security guard is stabbed in Asda supermarket

A 25-year-old man WAS arrested on suspicion of assault and theft after a security guard was stabbed in Asda.

Emergency services were called to Strand Road Asda at around 6.50pm on Saturday following reports a man had been attacked.

On arrival a security guard was found to have suffered 'superficial  stab wounds to his leg and arm'.

He was treated at the scene by the ambulance service before being taken to hospital.

A short time later a 25-year-old man was detained by police on nearby Gemini Road and was taken to hospital for assessment.

He was then taken to a police station where he was questioned.

And today police confirmed a man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: "He has now been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and theft."

Earlier today a spokesperson for Asda said: "We take the safety of our customers and colleagues very seriously and are currently assisting police with their enquiries.”
