Man arrested after Scottish Premiership footballer assaulted during match

A MAN has been arrested and charged after a footballer was assaulted during a game in Dundee.

Hearts defender Stuart Findlay was struck by a lighter in the closing stages of a match at Dundee United’s Tannadice Stadium on August 10.

The incident happened while Findlay celebrated his winning goal for Hearts in a 3-2 win over Dundee United.

Police confirmed a 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged following the alleged assault.

He was released on an undertaking and is due to appear at court at a later date.

A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police spokesperson said: "A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged following the alleged assault of a Heart of Midlothian player at the Dundee United vs Heart of Midlothian football match at Tannadice Stadium, Dundee on Sunday, August 10, 2025.

“He has been released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date. A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
