Man 'stabbed' as culprit robs bottle of vodka from his bag at park in Cork city

A man was left injured after being stabbed by a culprit who then stole a bottle of vodka from his bag.

The shocking incident took place just after 2pm yesterday in Bishop Lucey Park in Cork city.

The victim was sitting on a bench in the park when he was approached by three men, one of whom then assaulted him and stole a bottle of vodka from his bag, Cork Beo reports.

The man was brought to Mercy Hospital with an apparent stab wound to the leg and was discharged later that evening.

A description of the suspect was circulated to Gardaí from Anglesea Street and a man, aged in his 40s, was arrested shortly after. A knife and a bottle of vodka was also recovered.

He is currently detained at Bridewell Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in Bishop Lucey Park around 2pm and who may have seen this incident to contact Gardaí at Anglesea Street on 021-452200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
