Man arrested after refusing to get out of police van... despite being told by cops he was free to go

A man was arrested after refusing to get out of a police van - despite being told by cops he was free to go.

Officers were called to a 'disturbance' in Carrington at around 12.15pm Wednesday (December 22).

There had been reports a man had been threatening and intimidating a group of workmen, before taking their van keys.

Officers restrained a man and were able to get the keys back.

When they went to release the man, he refused to leave.

Police were left with no choice but to take the man into custody, arresting him on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

Details of the incident were posted on the GMP Sale Twitter page.

It read: "We’ve attended the Carrington address where a man’s said to have been threatening and intimidating towards workmen, before taking their van keys.

"A man was been detained and the keys returned to the workmen. It is likely the case will now go before a civil court at a later date.

"Despite the man being released, he insisted on going to custody and continued to act in a disorderly manner with officers.

"Man arrested for drunk and disorderly."

The PC manning the Twitter account added: "I've never had a job where someone has refused to get out of the van before when not under arrest."
